Our Story

CHURCH & VENUE

It would make us happy to see as see as many of our guests as possible attending the mass. The sacrament of marriage and the church hold a special place in our hearts; we are getting married in the church Ivana grew up in (the bride's church being a Croatian wedding tradition) and where we regularly attend Sunday mass. The church choir Hrid ('the Rock'), which Ivana is a member of, will contribute to making the ceremony a one to remember. In the Catholic Tradition, we receive Holy Eucharist. Only take the Eucharist if you are permitted to by the Catholic Church ( i.e baptised persons who are Catholic or Orthodox who are in the state of grace) In order to warm up (our voices, of course) there will a welcome gathering before the church ceremony.

Transportation

The church is in Zagreb (our neighborhood Maksimir) and the reception venue is on the outskirts of Zagreb.Please allow 45 minutes by car between the two locations (especially for the return after the party).

Attire

Attire is formal but comfortable — September in Croatia is usually warm, so please don’t feel obliged to wear a three-piece suit; lightweight suits or elegant summer dresses are all perfectly appropriate. As our ceremony will take place in a Catholic church, we kindly encourage guests to choose attire that is respectful of the setting. Pieces such as shawls, wraps, or cover-ups are warmly welcomed during the church ceremony.

Kids

Children are welcome! The venue will have a kids' corner with entertainers, face painting and games so parents can enjoy their meal and the dance floor. To help us plan, please indicate on your RSVP whether you will be bringing children and how many.

Grayson has the honour of being my Kum, or bestman. He has been with me for almost 10 years, we began as competitors, and after losing to me (on the erg) he decided to coach me. This duo became a force to be reconned with on the water, and at the local bar. He is taking his role as Kum extremley importantly and rumour has it he will go shot for shot with the locals in order to keep Canada proud.

Grayson Gray

Anthony, AJ, or Captain, is my older brother and will be my Barjaktar, or flag bearer. This is a vital position in the wedding, as he is in charge of keeping the party energized, and fueled with rakija, Croatian Brandy. AJ and I have known eachother since we were kids. I always tried to do what he did, but better. He would play paintball, I would play paintball, he would be a rower, I would be a rower, he would join the military and go to the middle east, I instead went to Croatia, Great Success! 

Anthony Blazevic

James is my youngest brother, and after missing his wedding due to Covid, I thought it would be fair to make him fly half way across the world to attend mine. Last time he was in Croatia was more than 25 years ago. Now being old enough to form memories, I am happy to have him celebrate with me in the country we all hold dear to our hearts.
